Fantasy Talk

This weekend we had our football fantasy draft. It is always a good time and we ended in record time. It didn't even take us an hour. Holy shit. That never happens.

Anyway my team is coming along really well and I have one more person to pick. Who do I pick though. I already have enough backups when suddenly I remember Hank Baskett. He is not a top pick but I love him.

Before the draft I caught up on my reality TV by watching Kendra. I loved the Girls Next Door and am hooked on her new show. It was exciting watching her plan a fairytale wedding and now preparing for her little bundle of joy to arrive. Anyway a huge suprise is her hubby Hank. He is awesome. He always knows just what to say and seems really down to earth. Sigh, he is just adorable.

So this leads me back to the fantasy draft. Hubby had his last pick before me so I turn to him and say "I am going to draft Hank Baskett for my last pick and if you pick him just despite me then I will kick you in the nuts. Yep, you won't be able to have kids and I will still get pregnant so that could be ackward."

Needless to say I got Hank Baskett. Woo hoo!

Obsessed With

The TV show Leverage. My hubby watched an episode and told me he thought I would like it. When I asked him what it was about he stated it was kinda like a modern version of the A-Team. If you don't know I love the A-Team so I was hooked. We have been watching Leverage ever since.

No Longer A Virgin

I finally did it. I bought my first Mega Millions Lottery ticket. In fact I bought 10 numbers. Hey, the jackpot is up to $325 million, when it gets this high I think I should play besides someone needs to win so why not. I know its probably $10 bucks down the drain but a girl can dream.

Let the day dreaming begin .. oh the things I would be able to do.

1. Quit my job but donate money to the non-profit that I work for. (They desperately need the money)
2. Hire a financial budget planner because lets face it I never have had to deal with millions of dollars. (Hell I haven't even dealt with thousands of dollars)
3. Pay off my parents mortgage for them.
4. Redo our kitchen counter tops and bathroom counter tops with granite.
5. Hire a designer to make an amazing over the top "Man Cave" for my hubby.
6. Buy myself the Lexus SUV Hybrid. My father-in-law has one and I swear its the hottest car I have ever seen.
7. Throw an amazing kick ass party for all my friends and family.
8. Travel - CA and Hawaii then off to Spain, Italy and probably Germany to make the hubby happy.
9. Buy a hot NY Penthouse for the weekends. I don't know why both hubby and I would really like a condo there.
10. Pay off our mortgage.

Ya, that would be it for starters. Okay, back to the real world.

Only 25 Cents

As Mrs. Pop says "If your life is a lemon, make it a lemonade. Then go out and find someone whose life is a vodka and have a party." I love this motto.

Yesterday as I was driving home from work I saw up a head on the main road some kids sitting outside their house with a little lemonade stand set up. The rule in our family is if you see kids with a lemonade stand you need to pull over and promptly buy some. Thus this is exactly what I did. Bonus, it was a one way street so I just drove up and put the window down. The AC was able to blast on me while I was delivered a nice cup of lemonade. The little boys were so excited to have a customer. They told me it was only 25 cents but since they were so adorable I gave them $1. OMG. Their faces were priceless. It's like my face when I find the perfect shoes on sale.

Needless to say I drove home jamming to the music and sipping my lemonade.

Secret Project Revealed

Well M's Baby Shower is over so I can reveal my big secret project. For the first time ever I made a Diaper Cake. No this is not real cake in the shape of a diaper but it is 3 tiers of diapers wrapped together to create a cake like image. She went with the Winnie The Pooh theme so I tied it in. Personally, I think it came out fabulous.

It was really easy to make and I had fun doing it. It would be great for centerpieces at a baby shower or just an added bonus for the mom to be.

Here are the supplies you will need to get started making your diaper cake centerpiece:

•Approximately 50 medium size disposable diapers. The cake I completed used 54 diapers, but since diaper brands vary in size, I'd keep a few extra on hand just in case. Plus, you can always give the extras to the mom-to-be.
•A large platter on which to build the cake. I purchased a 14" disposable cardboard platter from Michael's.
•Approximately 70 feet of narrow ribbon for tying the rolled diapers (1 ft. per diaper), and tying together the tiers.
•Approximately 8 feet of 1" wide ribbon for finishing the tiers.
•One tall baby bottle.
•Adhesive tape for the larger outside ribbon.
•Assorted baby necessities such as pacifiers, teething rings, combs, brushes, rattles, bibs, etc.

This next step is the most time consuming portion of this project.

•Cut 48 feet of the narrow ribbon into one-foot lengths.
•Decide whether you want the printed decoration on the diaper to show on the cake. If you do, roll each diaper from the fold outwards, keeping the decoration on the outside. If not, roll with the decoration on the inside. I rolled mine in so it would only show white.
•Tie each rolled diaper with a length of narrow ribbon.

You will be creating three tiers for this cake. It would be helpful during this part of the process to have an extra pair of hands helping you hold things together as you tie. Although I was able to do it without assistance.

They say to begin with the top tier but I started with the bottom and worked my way up.

•For the top tier pick something to stick out to top. I chose Winnie The Pooh but you can also use a bottle. Stand five or six diapers around the object and tie them tightly around the bottle with a length of narrow ribbon.
•Create the second tier with approximately 15 diapers. Once again, tie tightly together with the narrow ribbon.
•Create the third, and largest tier using approximately 27 diapers. To make the tying simpler, first tie an inner circle of diapers together. Then stand the final row of diapers around this circle and tie once again.

Now you're up to the fun part.

•Place the largest cake tier on the platter. They recommend using several pieces of adhesive tape on the underside of the diapers, tack them to the platter but I chose not too. I was afraid the tape would rip the diapers.
•Place the second tier on top of the bottom tier.
•Place the smallest tier on top and attach as you did the other tiers.
•Tuck the various baby accessories inside the ribbon, all around the cake. Make sure they fit snugly, and tie with more ribbon if necessary to keep them from falling off.
•Finish the cake with the one-inch ribbon wrapped around each tier to help secure the accessories and provide a finishing touch.

It was really easy to make although time consuming.

Top Secret

Now that the painting is over I can focus back on my top secret project. I am working on something and will be taking pictures but won't be able to post them till next week at the earliest. Let's just say this little project has a little something to do with a friend and she checks this blog occasionally.

Hmm, what could it be:

1. Pine Wood Durby car?
2. Painting of Tom Cruise before he went all weird?
3. A mix tape of the best songs ever?

Who knows, it could be anything?

Weekend Recap

Well what did we do this weekend? Hmmm, any guesses. Yep, you said it we painted again. AHHHH. By Saturday I was exhausted and my hand was cramping up from all the painting, not a fun time. Anyway luckily we are done with the painting and putting the house back together. There is a God.

On Saturday we took a quick break from painting and stopped by Bernie & Phyll's. We ordered new living room items; two end tables, a coffee table and a new TV console. Check out what we have the new TV on currently (see below)its really not working. The cool thing with Bernie & Phyll's is that if you spend over $999 you get a free 15 inch HD flat screen TV from Best Buy. Woo Hoo. I have been wanting a small TV for the kitchen area and I was hoping it would be flat so it wouldn't take up a lot of counter space so this is perfect. Now when I am making snacks for the game I can still watch the game. I'm super excited. Also, the furniture if being delivered on Wednesday and they will set everything up for us which is also another little bonus.

Below are some pictures of the house getting back together:

Painty Mc. Paint Paint

When we first bought the house we were so excited to paint. After living in dorms and then apartments we were both so sick of white walls. Almost 2 years ago we bought the house and preceded to paint 95% of the house with new colors. Through the past 2 years we have made some changes but it really has been fun for the most part ... until now.

We hired a professional to paint out ceilings because we don't do ceilings. Well, his assistant f**ked it up big time and he had to retouch up to walls for us. Well I don't know what happened but the paint that was in the can doesn't match the paint on our walls. (Yes, it is the same paint). The places that he had to touch up look like highlighted versions of the original paint and yes it is noticeable. So we tried washing the walls and scrubbing which blended them a little but not enough. Thus we are painting the whole first floor - Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen (only one wall there thankfully), The Hallway, and below the chair rail in the bathroom.

Oh yes, I am also hosting a retreat for some of my staff on the 20th of August so it needs to be done by then. Which means what were we doing on a Tuesday night - well painting of course.

Some of the highlights:

Baby is exhausted after watching us paint.

The paint color is a tad lighter which will brighten the house and we do really like it so far. We just need to retouch up the edges in the living room and then move on to the dining room. Fun Times!! Damn, we should have done a painting party.

Thank You CVS

Saturday morning I was putting together a list of errands that I needed to do: grab some paint samples from Benjamin Moore, grab a few groceries, return items at Bob's store, return shirt at Old Navy and put gas in the car. I also needed to refill my flonase nasal spray prescription, allergies, at CVS but since it comes in a bottle I had thrown away the box with the refill # on it so I couldn't just refill over the phone so easily. Damn. I had put off getting my flonase filled for almost 2 weeks.

Ring Ring goes the phone. Hmm, who could this be.

Me: Hello

CVS: Yes, this is CVS calling and we noticed that your flonase needs to be refilled. Would you like me to go ahead and do that for you?

Me: Um, yes that would be great.

CVS: Sure, when would you like it?

Me: Could you have it ready in 1 hour?

CVS: No problem. Is there anything else I can do for you?

Me: No thats it. Thanks again.

Sure enough 1 hour later I was pulling into the drive thru at CVS and got my prescription. It only took me about 2 minutes. Woo Hoo.

I don't know if this is something that they are always going to do or if CVS was just really slow so they decided to make the call but THANK YOU!!! It was a wonderful surprise!

No, thats not what I ordered

Is it me but with the economy being so crappy and jobs hard to find don't you think people would try harder at their job? Just a crazy thought.

This past weekend we had dinner with my parents and after we left we decided to stop at Honey Dew for a coffee on the way home. I am a Honey Dew girl, I love the fact that they brew their coffee and don't do flavor shots. I hate flavor shots. Anyway I go to order and it's like a game of who's on 2nd.

HD: Can I help you?

Me: Yes, can I have a small hot decaf blueberry Cinnamon with 2 equals and cream. (I know its a lot but I speak clearly and slowly)

HD: Umm, what was that?

Me: A small hot decaf blueberry cinnamon with 2 equals and cream.

HD: Ok, drive up.

(We drive to the window)

HD: So you want a medium?

Me: No, a small. (From the back I hear someone yell Cinnamon Hazelnut) So I say again, a small hot decaf blueberry cinnamon with 2 equals and cream.

HD: Ok, here's your coffee.

Me: Thanks, so its a a small hot decaf blueberry cinnamon with 2 equals and cream.

HD: Yep.

They give me the coffee and we drive off. I take a sip and sure enough its Cinnamon Hazelnut. We had watched them pour from the decaf pot so at least that was good. I don't know .. is it just me?

I will post pictures later but too tired to do it now.
