Christmas Vacation

Loving this song. "Mele Kalikimaka"

Mele kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say merry Christmas to you

Mele kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
That's the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say merry Christmas to you

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say merry Christmas to you

Mele kalikimaka is the thing to say on a bright Hawaiian Christmas day
Thats the island greeting that we send to you
From the land where palm trees sway
Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright
The sun will shine by day and all the stars at night
Mele kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say merry Christmas,
Merry merry Christmas to you, merry merry Christmas to you.

Plus it always makes me think of this scene in Christmas Vacation.

Holiday Edition

Love: Outside Christmas lights that my hubby hung up for us.
Hate: That we only have 3 candles up in the front windows even though we have 4 windows. The fourth candles light bulb burnt out and we have yet to replace it.

Love: Putting up the Christmas Tree. It is fun putting up the lights and all the ornaments.
Hate: Taking down the Christmas Tree. Why does it always seem that there are more ornaments to take down then we put up?

Love: My Santa's village. I love the little lights and the multi-layers of all the village homes.
Hate: Styrofoam. Yuck. The noise hurts my ears but my village is delicate so I need it to be in Styrofoam.

Love: Christmas songs!!!
Hate: That I miss out on all the new songs that come out between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Christmas Anti-Gifts

So we have our best Christmas gifts but what about the terrible, are you kidding me kind of gifts? We all get them and I thought it would be fun to go down that memory lane.

One of my worst gifts that still makes me laugh today was from my Grandma when I was in high school. On Christmas Day we would go to Grammy's house for dinner, family time and the gift exchange. My cousin Jennie and I are about the same age so we would always get the same gifts. This particular year Jennie got her gift first and I knew I would be getting the same. What was this wonderful gift? It was some canned goods, a jar of spaghetti sauce and a box of spaghetti. Ok, I don't want to seem bitchy here but I was still living my parents ... I was still in high school.

Jennie and I were both kinda shocked because this is something Grammy never gave us before but of course we pretended to love it. The worst part though was that Jennie's box of spaghetti was open and half used. Oye. It still makes me smile though.

How about you? Any good stories?

Countdown to Christmas

As I think about the final Christmas gifts to buy I started thinking about some of the more memorable Christmas gifts I have gotten over the years.

When I was in middle school I got a corduroy blue school varsity jacket. I had really, really wanted one and Santa brought it. I was so excited that I would wear the jacket every wear.

It looks liked the above jacket although the arms were also blue.

How about you? What was one of the best gifts that you ever received for Christmas?

Thanksgiving Favorite

Our Thanksgiving was a wonderful trip down to New Jersey to spend at my in-laws. It is a really nice time and my parents also make the trek down. We are lucky that they have a large home so everyone has there own space and it helps make the holiday process go even better.

My mom-in-law is a really great cook and one of my most favorite things that she makes is Baked Brie. OMG, it is so yummy. Since we became preggers I have been avoiding brie since its not the best thing to eat when you are pregnant but I checked with my doctor and she said a little of the baked brie would be fine. Yippiee! Let me tell you that it was worth the wait.

If you like brie you need to try this recipe:

1/2 of 17 ounce package of puff pastry sheets (1 sheet and I usually use Pepperidge Farms)
1 egg
1 tbsp water
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup of honey (you can also use brown sugar but I think the honey is the best)
1 (13 ounce) Brie Cheese round

Heat oven to 400 degrees.

Thaw pastry sheet at room temperature, 40 min or until its easy to handle. Beat egg and water in a small bowl, and set aside. Unfold the pastry sheet on lightly floured surface. Roll sheet into a 14 inch square. Place the brie cheese on the middle of the pastry sheet. Stir pecans and honey in bowl. Pour mixture on top of brie cheese. Brush edges of pastry sheet with the egg mixture. Fold two opposite sides over the cheese and then fold the other two side over the cheese. Press to seal the pasty sheet shut. Brush the top with egg mixture.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand 30 minutes before serving.

So It Begins

I have not popped yet by any means but I do have a little belly. We just turned 17 weeks this past Friday. It is funny how every day I am just waiting for my belly to get bigger .. very different than before pregnancy.

Spam

Dear Frederick's of Hollywood,

I am sorry to inform you that for the next several months your weekly emails will be going into my spam box. You have been a good friend for several years and came in very handy over the summer; however, as my belly expands and my ass gets larger looking at your very thin and perky models is not going to help my pregnancy. I thank you for your understanding and look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Sincerely,
Mama To Be

Christmas Shopping

This weekend I was feeling pretty good and didn't get sick all weekend .. this is like a world record. I can't remember the last weekend I didn't get sick. Anyway since I was feeling better and my mom was up to visit we decided to get some Christmas shopping done.

We went to Target and started working on my list. I was actually surprised to see that is wasn't that busy on a Saturday afternoon and we didn't even have to wait at the checkout counter - score!

The difficult part came in figuring out what to get my cousins kids. Some of these kids I only see once or twice a year so how the hell do I know what to give them but on the other hand I don't think gift certificates are appropriate for 6 year olds .. it's just my own thought.

I saw some young kids in the toy aisle and figured they were around the 6/7 year mark so I started to follow them a little (not stalk) but just stare at them and watch intently on what they found interesting. Bottom line is it worked and I go the items I needed to get - score again!

On a side note, I bought Season One of House for my mom because she really wants it but holy hell .. $45 for one season .. I love House but even he would be pissed off at the price, okay he is pissed off at everything but come on.

All the easy gifts are done but the hard things are left .. for instance, what do I get my mom-in-law? Any advice? Next year will be so much easier because we can give photo albums of the baby and all the grandparents will be happy.

Pretty Colors

Have you seen the new Dell computers? They are coming out in pretty OPI nail colors. The one linked is my favorite .. its called "I'm Really Not A Waitress".

My dream job is to drink wine, eat brie cheese and crackers while picking out cool names for OPI colors. OPI if you are listening I would be great at it!

Garlic

Let me start by saying hubby, I am so sorry. I do not know how you put up with me but you do, my crazy smells and all. Thank You!

So I mentioned how the new couch and the fridge smell bothers me well it has gotten worse. Now, I cannot even stand the way my hubby smells. Seriously, its bad. I think he secretly rubs his body with garlic before he enters the house. I know I sound like a crazy person but I cannot help it. I have even tried to catch him in the act because I know he is doing this. When his truck pulls up to the house I race to the nearest window for a peak but at last I never catch him.

Normal Me: Hubby, did you have any garlic for lunch today? It seems that I smell a hint of garlic.

Pregnant Me: ROAR!!! You ate garlic didn't you!! AHHHH, you rubbed it all over you didn't you!!! ROAR!!!

Poor Hubby he denies the garlic use but I am on to him.

Crack, no thanks I'm good

All of my pants are still fitting as I entered my 14th week of pregnancy. The only thing that is not fitting well is my favorite pair of jeans. I cannot button the top button ... well I can but its uncomfortable, especially when I sit down. I bought a BellaBand, which is okay, but after sitting and standing, and sitting and standing it gets a little annoying. I finally went on to Old Navy to check out there maternity pants since they have practically no maternity clothing at their stores.

I found a pair below that I thought would be cute. The band wasn't that big which is perfect because I have not popped yet and don't need full coverage for my bellly. I ordered the jeans in a dark vintage color and could get them in long which is a plus since as I am 5'8.

Don't they look cute .. I thought so till I got them in. First, the dark vintage color is more like a dark spandex blue and doesn't look or feel like jeans. Second, I didn't realize low rise meant low rise for barely covering your ass. I thought low rise was the little belly band on it, sadly I was wrong.

Come on, who wants to see pregnant plumbers crack?

Crack + Pregnancy = Gross!

Loving This Song

Falling For You by Colbie Caillat

Don’t know but I think I maybe
Fallin’ for you
Dropping so quickly
Maybe I should
Keep this to myself
Waiting ’til I
Know you better
I am trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head
I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya

I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

As I’m standing here
And you hold my hand
Pull me towards you
And we start to dance
All around usI see nobody
Here in silence
It’s just you and me
I’m trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head
I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do

I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

Oh I just can’t take it
My heart is racing
The emotions keep spinning out
I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
And now I found ya
I don’t know what to do

I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you
I can’t stop thinking about it
I want you all around me
And now I just can’t hide it
I think I’m fallin’ for you

No Pizza Cheese For You

A few weeks back one of my girlfriends came over for dinner to celebrate my birthday. She was going to pick us up something from Town Spa Pizza and then head to my place. We figured we would eat in and watch a chick flick. I told her I would call it in since she was getting.

Here is how the phone order conversation played out:

Me: Hi I would like to place an order for pick up.

TS: Sure, what would you like.

Me: I would like a BBQ chicken pizza and a garden salad with pizza cheese on it with italian dressing on the side.

TS: Oh, I don't know if we can put pizza cheese on a salad. Please hold.

Me: (I'm thinking seriously? You are a pizza joint and you can't put pizza cheese on a salad)

TS: Oh, I'm sorry we can't do that but we do have feta cheese so you could get a greek salad.

Me: I CANNOT EAT FETA BECAUSE I AM PREGNANT! ROAR!

TS: Umm, well we can give you a greek salad without the feta.

Me: THEN WOULDN'T THAT JUST BE A DAMN GARDEN SALAD IF THERE IS NO FETA.

TS: Umm, yes it would be. Ah, do you still want the garden salad.

Me: YES, ROAR!

I did feel bad for yelling at the girl but seriously come on.

Sensitive Nose

I do not remember the exact week it happened but small little smells turned into horrible smells that made me want to die. It has gotten better but it still bothers me.

- We bought new couches from Jordans, well technically we bought a new couch and the floor model love seat. The love seat I am fine with, its the damn new couch. It has new couch smell and I do not like it. Yuck. Many times I refuse to sit on it because of the smell. Now my husband has assured me there is not smell but he still sits with me on the love seat when we watch TV. Awww.

- The fridge. God, why. We have cleaned out the fridge, put odor absorbers in there and made sure all the food in there is in good condition. With all my tries the fridge still bothers me. Many times I take a big breath, open the door and quickly grab what I need and then slam the door shut. This has been my routine for a while now.

- My hubby's breath. Now before I go on it's not bad .. I'm not talking morning breath. I'm talking about when I am sleeping and he rolls over and starts breathing on me at night. I hate his hot breath on me. I usually help push him over so he rolls to the other side and problem solved. I just don't like being breathed on.

I know, I know I am weird but at least I can admit it.

We Are Pregnant

Oh, I have wanted to write that on this little blog for so long and I finally get too. Woo Hoo.

Let me start with a little background information for everyone:

1. This was a planned pregnancy.
2. Lucky for us it only took 2 months of trying.
3. We found out on August 22nd and took two pregnancy tests to make sure it was true.
4. We are both so happy and excited as this is our first pregnancy.
5. We wait a few weeks to tell people and told our parents on Labor Day weekend when we had them all together. I had little onsies made up that stated "I love my Papa" and "I love my Grammy" for my parents and "I love my Grandpa" and "I love my Nana" for hubby's parents. We wrapped up the gifts separately and handed them out. It was a very exciting time.
6. The first trimester I have been so sick. I mean I see the toilet more then I see my hubby. It's been pretty bad but I am hoping it will get better.
7. We have had two ultrasounds so far. The first one looked like a spot of dust on the screen and the second one really looked like a baby. Eeekk.
8. We are planning on waiting and being surprised on the gender. I think it will be amazing at the end of all that pushing to hear "It's a Girl" or "It's a Boy".
9. I think its a girl.
10. I could not have gotten through the past few weeks without my hubby. He has truly been my rock.

I have missed you so much! It seems like forever since I have last seen you. Please do not stay away so long .. I just cannot take it. You should really visit more often.

Pumpkin Brownies

I made some easy to cook pumpkin brownies for work yesterday morning and they came out fabulous. I am glad I made a double batch because there are barely any left.

Double batch:
2 boxes of Betty Crocker brownie mix (or whatever is on sale)
1 can pure pumpkin
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoons of nutmeg
2 eggs

Mix together and then pour into a 8 x 13 glass pan (well that's what I did). First, I sprayed it was a little Pam. I baked them on 350 for about 50 mins.

They came out moist and delicious. It was a nice blend of pumpkin and chocolate.

Just Right

Have you seen these cute little mini cups of ice cream from Haagen-Dazs? They are adorable and actually quite filling. This already predetermined size is super helpful for the ice cream junkie like me. If I buy a gallon of ice cream I would probably inhale 2 or 3 large scoops of ice cream in a matter of minutes; however, with the mini's you know its all you have so you enjoy it and make it last. I am a huge fan .. although how do I keep them a secret from the hubby?

Burning the Calories

So yesterday I sat down at the computer with my breakfast. I splurged and got a yummy cinnamon chip muffin which was about 12 Weight Watcher points but hey you need to live a little and I have been avoiding them for long enough. Yesterday was the day. While checking some emails and catching up on life I look at a link that my girlfriend Kim sent. Check out this awesome video.

This is the jump robe video and all I can say, and all she could say, was Holy Shit. As I watched this video I felt the calories from my muffin just float away. Seriously, I do not think you can watch an energetic video like this and gain weight .. it is just not possible.

In fact, I think I have a new exercise regiment now. Watch this first thing every morning and feel the pounds fall right off. It's a good theory, right?

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Hello little blog

Dear blog,

I am so sorry for ignoring you lately. Things have been so busy that I have gotten caught up in all the commotion. I know, that't not an excuse but I will try to be better. So how have you been? Hopefully you have been doing well without me for a bit but I will try to be better.

Thanks for your understanding,
Moi

Loving and hating

Love: Watching Football games on Sundays .. like all 3 games.
Hate: The fact that it eats away one whole day on the weekend.

Love: The crisp fall air and needing an extra blanket at night.
Hate: When I get out of a nice hot shower to freeze as I quickly dry off.

Love: Halloween Parties.
Hate: Trying to find a cool costume. So many to choose from its hard to decide.

Love: When my cat runs from the side door to the front door to the couch so she can look out the window when chasing a bird.
Hate: That when I call her she hardly ever comes.

Love: Clean clothes hanging from my closet hangers.
Hate: What usually happens .. clean clothes that are folded but sit in my laundry basket for a week or more.

Grocery Stores

When I am in the grocery store I try to drive my cart like I drive a car. I stay on my side of the aisle and if someone is in the main aisle I let them go first and look both ways before crossing.

I don't get the people that think we are in bumper carts and will just run you over to get a box of crackers when hello there are 50 boxes of crackers

PS is there anyway to add directionals to the grocery cart but oh ya this is Mass and people don't believe in them. Gotta love it.

Bathroom

I love my hubby to death but we are still working on communication:

Me: Can you clean the bathroom upstairs including the shower?

Hubby: Sure, no problem.

Some time passes

Me: (checking out the upstairs bathroom) Um, hun. Did you clean the toilet?

Hubby: No

Me: Did you clean the mirror?

Hubby: No

Me: Um, do you think you can?

Hubby: Sure

Ok, is it me .. I mean cleaning a bathroom includes cleaning the mirror and toilet - right?

Weekend Re-Cap

This past Friday I turned 29 years old. Wow, my last year in my twenties! Eeekkk! I had a wonderful birthday with my hubby and all my fabulous friends!

Plus we got a Carvel ice cream cake .. I forgot how good they are.

Wrap Up

So for anyone complaining about the economy don't come crying to me. My hubby and I have been doing our part in supporting the economy .. a little too much actually but what can you do.

Okay so this summer we had some work done on the house - new tile floor in upstairs bathroom, repainting the first floor ceiling, power washing the deck and house, staining of the deck, repainting the white window trim outside and fixing some of the siding on the shed. Okay I think that was it.

Then we decided to upgrade our living room set. The end tables I got when I was single from Ann & Hope's closing sale, the coffee table is okay but not as large as we want and the TV console was again okay but would not fit the larger TV we wanted. So we upgraded everything.

Moving on, we got a larger TV this summer. Hubby has been wanting a flat screen HD TV for quite a while and has done a good job saving money so we finally bought that. It looks great on the new console and finally it felt that the living room was coming together but of course that would be too easy.

For final touches we took the old couches we had in the living room and gave them away and brought up the brown leather couches from downstairs to make it a little bit more of an adult space. Everything was going great until we remembered that when baby, the cat, had a UTI a while ago she peed on the couch and when the humidity hit the stench came back even worse. Hubby has been great cleaning, re-cleaning and more cleaning the couches but there is no getting that smell out. Oye. So today we went to Jordans and bought a basic brown fabric couch and love seat. It will be delivered on Friday just in time for my birthday.

Okay so hopefully thats it. We have done enough for this damn economy and finally our living room will be done.

Football is Back

Woot Woot. Football is back. We spent a wonderful day watching the Jets beat Houston .. maybe this will actually be a good season for the Jets. Their quarterback, Mark Sanchez, is a rookie right out of USC. He was so pumped and excited during the game. It was really cute to see.

Random Words From The Weekend

This weekend we went to the Cape and met up with the in-laws and my parents for a wonderful cookout. Here are some of the random quotes ...

"I haven't given it two shakes of my brain cells."

"You keep this up I am going to enlist you in the army."

"She looks like a witch." "Ya, she looks like she died 5 years ago."

"I would crawl on my naked knees over a mile of broken glass to hear a lobster piss in a tin can."

"Slow Balls Mc. Ass Crack!"

"A turtle tried to bite my ankle."

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Fantasy Talk

This weekend we had our football fantasy draft. It is always a good time and we ended in record time. It didn't even take us an hour. Holy shit. That never happens.

Anyway my team is coming along really well and I have one more person to pick. Who do I pick though. I already have enough backups when suddenly I remember Hank Baskett. He is not a top pick but I love him.

Before the draft I caught up on my reality TV by watching Kendra. I loved the Girls Next Door and am hooked on her new show. It was exciting watching her plan a fairytale wedding and now preparing for her little bundle of joy to arrive. Anyway a huge suprise is her hubby Hank. He is awesome. He always knows just what to say and seems really down to earth. Sigh, he is just adorable.

So this leads me back to the fantasy draft. Hubby had his last pick before me so I turn to him and say "I am going to draft Hank Baskett for my last pick and if you pick him just despite me then I will kick you in the nuts. Yep, you won't be able to have kids and I will still get pregnant so that could be ackward."

Needless to say I got Hank Baskett. Woo hoo!

Obsessed With

The TV show Leverage. My hubby watched an episode and told me he thought I would like it. When I asked him what it was about he stated it was kinda like a modern version of the A-Team. If you don't know I love the A-Team so I was hooked. We have been watching Leverage ever since.

No Longer A Virgin

I finally did it. I bought my first Mega Millions Lottery ticket. In fact I bought 10 numbers. Hey, the jackpot is up to $325 million, when it gets this high I think I should play besides someone needs to win so why not. I know its probably $10 bucks down the drain but a girl can dream.

Let the day dreaming begin .. oh the things I would be able to do.

1. Quit my job but donate money to the non-profit that I work for. (They desperately need the money)
2. Hire a financial budget planner because lets face it I never have had to deal with millions of dollars. (Hell I haven't even dealt with thousands of dollars)
3. Pay off my parents mortgage for them.
4. Redo our kitchen counter tops and bathroom counter tops with granite.
5. Hire a designer to make an amazing over the top "Man Cave" for my hubby.
6. Buy myself the Lexus SUV Hybrid. My father-in-law has one and I swear its the hottest car I have ever seen.
7. Throw an amazing kick ass party for all my friends and family.
8. Travel - CA and Hawaii then off to Spain, Italy and probably Germany to make the hubby happy.
9. Buy a hot NY Penthouse for the weekends. I don't know why both hubby and I would really like a condo there.
10. Pay off our mortgage.

Ya, that would be it for starters. Okay, back to the real world.

Only 25 Cents

As Mrs. Pop says "If your life is a lemon, make it a lemonade. Then go out and find someone whose life is a vodka and have a party." I love this motto.

Yesterday as I was driving home from work I saw up a head on the main road some kids sitting outside their house with a little lemonade stand set up. The rule in our family is if you see kids with a lemonade stand you need to pull over and promptly buy some. Thus this is exactly what I did. Bonus, it was a one way street so I just drove up and put the window down. The AC was able to blast on me while I was delivered a nice cup of lemonade. The little boys were so excited to have a customer. They told me it was only 25 cents but since they were so adorable I gave them $1. OMG. Their faces were priceless. It's like my face when I find the perfect shoes on sale.

Needless to say I drove home jamming to the music and sipping my lemonade.

Secret Project Revealed

Well M's Baby Shower is over so I can reveal my big secret project. For the first time ever I made a Diaper Cake. No this is not real cake in the shape of a diaper but it is 3 tiers of diapers wrapped together to create a cake like image. She went with the Winnie The Pooh theme so I tied it in. Personally, I think it came out fabulous.

It was really easy to make and I had fun doing it. It would be great for centerpieces at a baby shower or just an added bonus for the mom to be.

Here are the supplies you will need to get started making your diaper cake centerpiece:

•Approximately 50 medium size disposable diapers. The cake I completed used 54 diapers, but since diaper brands vary in size, I'd keep a few extra on hand just in case. Plus, you can always give the extras to the mom-to-be.
•A large platter on which to build the cake. I purchased a 14" disposable cardboard platter from Michael's.
•Approximately 70 feet of narrow ribbon for tying the rolled diapers (1 ft. per diaper), and tying together the tiers.
•Approximately 8 feet of 1" wide ribbon for finishing the tiers.
•One tall baby bottle.
•Adhesive tape for the larger outside ribbon.
•Assorted baby necessities such as pacifiers, teething rings, combs, brushes, rattles, bibs, etc.

This next step is the most time consuming portion of this project.

•Cut 48 feet of the narrow ribbon into one-foot lengths.
•Decide whether you want the printed decoration on the diaper to show on the cake. If you do, roll each diaper from the fold outwards, keeping the decoration on the outside. If not, roll with the decoration on the inside. I rolled mine in so it would only show white.
•Tie each rolled diaper with a length of narrow ribbon.

You will be creating three tiers for this cake. It would be helpful during this part of the process to have an extra pair of hands helping you hold things together as you tie. Although I was able to do it without assistance.

They say to begin with the top tier but I started with the bottom and worked my way up.

•For the top tier pick something to stick out to top. I chose Winnie The Pooh but you can also use a bottle. Stand five or six diapers around the object and tie them tightly around the bottle with a length of narrow ribbon.
•Create the second tier with approximately 15 diapers. Once again, tie tightly together with the narrow ribbon.
•Create the third, and largest tier using approximately 27 diapers. To make the tying simpler, first tie an inner circle of diapers together. Then stand the final row of diapers around this circle and tie once again.

Now you're up to the fun part.

•Place the largest cake tier on the platter. They recommend using several pieces of adhesive tape on the underside of the diapers, tack them to the platter but I chose not too. I was afraid the tape would rip the diapers.
•Place the second tier on top of the bottom tier.
•Place the smallest tier on top and attach as you did the other tiers.
•Tuck the various baby accessories inside the ribbon, all around the cake. Make sure they fit snugly, and tie with more ribbon if necessary to keep them from falling off.
•Finish the cake with the one-inch ribbon wrapped around each tier to help secure the accessories and provide a finishing touch.

It was really easy to make although time consuming.

Top Secret

Now that the painting is over I can focus back on my top secret project. I am working on something and will be taking pictures but won't be able to post them till next week at the earliest. Let's just say this little project has a little something to do with a friend and she checks this blog occasionally.

Hmm, what could it be:

1. Pine Wood Durby car?
2. Painting of Tom Cruise before he went all weird?
3. A mix tape of the best songs ever?

Who knows, it could be anything?

Weekend Recap

Well what did we do this weekend? Hmmm, any guesses. Yep, you said it we painted again. AHHHH. By Saturday I was exhausted and my hand was cramping up from all the painting, not a fun time. Anyway luckily we are done with the painting and putting the house back together. There is a God.

On Saturday we took a quick break from painting and stopped by Bernie & Phyll's. We ordered new living room items; two end tables, a coffee table and a new TV console. Check out what we have the new TV on currently (see below)its really not working. The cool thing with Bernie & Phyll's is that if you spend over $999 you get a free 15 inch HD flat screen TV from Best Buy. Woo Hoo. I have been wanting a small TV for the kitchen area and I was hoping it would be flat so it wouldn't take up a lot of counter space so this is perfect. Now when I am making snacks for the game I can still watch the game. I'm super excited. Also, the furniture if being delivered on Wednesday and they will set everything up for us which is also another little bonus.

Below are some pictures of the house getting back together:

Why you so obsessed with me? "Obsessed" by Mariah Carey. If there is someone in your life that calls you all the time you should totally make this the ringtone for that person :)

So Oh Oh So Ohhh

Say we up in your house
Sayin’ I’m up in your car
But you in LA but I’m out at Jermaine’s

Ooh boy why you so obsessed with me?
Boy I want to know- lyin’ that you’re sexin me
when everybody knows it’s clear that you’re upset with me
Ohh finally found a girl that you couldn’t impress
Last man on the earth- still couldn’t get this

You’re delusional, you’re delusional
Boy you’re losing your mind
It’s confusin yo, you’re confused you know
Why you wasting your time?
Got you all fired up with your Napoleon complex
See right through you like you’re bathin’ in windex

And all the ladies sing, all the girls sing
Soo Oohhhh Soo Oohh Obsessed

You on your job, you hittin’ hard
Ain’t gon feed you, gon’ let you starve
Graspin’ for air I’m ventilation
You out of breath, hope you ain’t waitin
Tellin’ the world how much you miss me
But we never were so why you trippin’
You a mom and pop, I’m a corporation
I’m the press conference, you a conversation

Ooh boy why you so obsessed with me?
Boy I want to know- lyin’ that you’re sexin me

Painty Mc. Paint Paint

When we first bought the house we were so excited to paint. After living in dorms and then apartments we were both so sick of white walls. Almost 2 years ago we bought the house and preceded to paint 95% of the house with new colors. Through the past 2 years we have made some changes but it really has been fun for the most part ... until now.

We hired a professional to paint out ceilings because we don't do ceilings. Well, his assistant f**ked it up big time and he had to retouch up to walls for us. Well I don't know what happened but the paint that was in the can doesn't match the paint on our walls. (Yes, it is the same paint). The places that he had to touch up look like highlighted versions of the original paint and yes it is noticeable. So we tried washing the walls and scrubbing which blended them a little but not enough. Thus we are painting the whole first floor - Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen (only one wall there thankfully), The Hallway, and below the chair rail in the bathroom.

Oh yes, I am also hosting a retreat for some of my staff on the 20th of August so it needs to be done by then. Which means what were we doing on a Tuesday night - well painting of course.

Some of the highlights:

Baby is exhausted after watching us paint.

The paint color is a tad lighter which will brighten the house and we do really like it so far. We just need to retouch up the edges in the living room and then move on to the dining room. Fun Times!! Damn, we should have done a painting party.

Thank You CVS

Saturday morning I was putting together a list of errands that I needed to do: grab some paint samples from Benjamin Moore, grab a few groceries, return items at Bob's store, return shirt at Old Navy and put gas in the car. I also needed to refill my flonase nasal spray prescription, allergies, at CVS but since it comes in a bottle I had thrown away the box with the refill # on it so I couldn't just refill over the phone so easily. Damn. I had put off getting my flonase filled for almost 2 weeks.

Ring Ring goes the phone. Hmm, who could this be.

Me: Hello

CVS: Yes, this is CVS calling and we noticed that your flonase needs to be refilled. Would you like me to go ahead and do that for you?

Me: Um, yes that would be great.

CVS: Sure, when would you like it?

Me: Could you have it ready in 1 hour?

CVS: No problem. Is there anything else I can do for you?

Me: No thats it. Thanks again.

Sure enough 1 hour later I was pulling into the drive thru at CVS and got my prescription. It only took me about 2 minutes. Woo Hoo.

I don't know if this is something that they are always going to do or if CVS was just really slow so they decided to make the call but THANK YOU!!! It was a wonderful surprise!

No, thats not what I ordered

Is it me but with the economy being so crappy and jobs hard to find don't you think people would try harder at their job? Just a crazy thought.

This past weekend we had dinner with my parents and after we left we decided to stop at Honey Dew for a coffee on the way home. I am a Honey Dew girl, I love the fact that they brew their coffee and don't do flavor shots. I hate flavor shots. Anyway I go to order and it's like a game of who's on 2nd.

HD: Can I help you?

Me: Yes, can I have a small hot decaf blueberry Cinnamon with 2 equals and cream. (I know its a lot but I speak clearly and slowly)

HD: Umm, what was that?

Me: A small hot decaf blueberry cinnamon with 2 equals and cream.

HD: Ok, drive up.

(We drive to the window)

HD: So you want a medium?

Me: No, a small. (From the back I hear someone yell Cinnamon Hazelnut) So I say again, a small hot decaf blueberry cinnamon with 2 equals and cream.

HD: Ok, here's your coffee.

Me: Thanks, so its a a small hot decaf blueberry cinnamon with 2 equals and cream.

HD: Yep.

They give me the coffee and we drive off. I take a sip and sure enough its Cinnamon Hazelnut. We had watched them pour from the decaf pot so at least that was good. I don't know .. is it just me?

I will post pictures later but too tired to do it now.

Highlights

The picture below does not do my hair justice ... it is so much worse. I think the light from the flashed actually helped my hair in this picture.

Ok, so for anybody who has ever gotten highlights and maintained your highlights they recommend going every 6 weeks. Well obviously this depends on how fast your hair grows and mine is very speedy currently.

Let me back up, I use to be able to look at my hair and say yikes I need to get my highlights touched up and then call for an appointment. Usually within 2-3 days I would have an appointment and all would be right in the world. Well that was my old hairdresser up in Medford who has since left the salon. I decided that I wasn't driving up through Boston for some other person so I decided to find a salon a little closer to me.

One of my friends recommended a place in Weymouth and although that is not next door my friends hair always looks great so I decided why not. When I first got my hair highlighted and cut I loved it. It looked great and the hairdresser was cool. She was sweet with a touch of rock. I liked her and when I went it was like going for a therapy appointment although I left feeling good on the inside and looking good on the outside. It was a win win.

So several weeks passed (hey it was the summer) and suddenly I looked in the mirror and thought oh god I need to get my roots dones asap. Well of course I waited another week before I even called and when I did call I was shocked to know they couldn't get me in within 2-3 days it was more like 2-3 weeks. WHAT! (now mind you I prefer to go on a Saturday because my work schedule is a little hectic during the week and Route 3 rush hour traffic scares me) I was shocked. I spoke with my friend and she was like "oh ya, they are really busy so I book my next appointment before I leave". ok so I could do that but that would require planning ahead and its not something I ever have done with my hair. I figured I would try it next time because damn my hair was looking bad and I never wanted to go through this again.

So my next appointment went great, loved the hair and when I went to pay I also went to book another appointment. (Go me) Well after I wiped my bank account clean from that experience (they are not the cheapest place) I decided I didn't need to go every 6 weeks .. I was sure I could make it at least 7 weeks. Man, I was wrong. I am dying and my hair appointment isn't even till this coming Saturday. It seems like forever. I think I really need to go every 5 weeks because my hair has grown almost 1 1/2 inches since my last appointment which means it is showing a lot of root and sad to say a lot of tiny gray hairs. Oye.

Come on Saturday .. get here sooner!

Real Conversations

True text conversation from last night with one of my friends:

Me: Um no ... are you thinking of trying it?

B: I think I like him.

Me: Oh God. no you don't like him that much and he doesn't get anal till you get a huge rock.

B: HaHa! He has done it twice! Gross!

Me: Seriously. Damn! Charlotte's (from Sex & The City) don't like anal. (side coversation she is SUCH a Charlotte - she once told a guy at the end of the date that she doesn't kiss on the first date and that she was a Charlotte)

Sometimes Love Comes Around

I am loving this song, "Knock You Down lyrics" by Keri Hilson

Heh, not again
Ohh, this ain't supposed to happen to me

Keep rockin', and keep knockin'
Whether you Louis Vuitton it up or Reebokin'
You see the hate, that they're servin' on a platter
So what we gon' have, dessert or disaster?

I never thought I'd be in love like this
When I look at you my mind goes on a trip
Then you came in, and knocked me on my face
Feels like in I'm a race
But I already won first place

I never thought I'd fall for you as hard as I did
(As hard as I did, yeah)
You got me thinkin' bout our life our house and kids, yeah
Every mornin' I look at you and smile
'Cause boy you came around and you knocked me down
Knocked me down

Sometimes love comes around
(Love comes around love comes around)
And it knocks you down
Just get back up
When it knocks you down
(Knocks you down)
Sometimes love comes around
(Love comes around)
And it knocks you down
Just get back up
When it knocks you down
(Knocks you down)

I never thought I'd, hear myself say, ooh, ya'll gon' head
I think I'm gonna kick it wit my girl today, kick it wit my girl today
I used to be commander and chief
Of my pimp ship flyin' high, flyin' high)
Til I met this pretty little missile that shot me out the sky
(Oh shot me out the sky)

Hey, now I'm crashing, don't know how it happened
But I know it feels so damn good
Said if I could back, and make it happen faster
Don't you know I would baby if I could
Miss Independent, ohh, to the fullest, the load never too much
She helpin' me pull it
She shot the bullet that ended that life
I swear to you the pimp in me just died tonight
Girl sometimes love

Sometimes love comes around
(Love comes around)
And it knocks you down
Just get back up
When it knocks you down
(Knocks you down)
Sometimes love comes around
(Love comes around)
And it knocks you down
Just get back up
When it knocks you down
(Knocks you down)

Tell me now can you make it past your Caspers
So we can finally fly off into NASA
You was always the cheerleader of my dreams that
Seem to only date the head of football teams
And I was the class clown that, always kept you laughin'

We, were never meant to be baby we just happen
So please, don't mess up the trick, hey young world I'm the new slick rick
They say I move too quick, but we can't let the moment pass us
Let the hourglass pass right into ashes

Let the wind blow the ash right before my glasses
So I wrote this love letter right before my classes
How could a goddess ask, someone that's only average
For advice, OMG, you listen to that bitch?
Whoa, it's me, baby this is tragic
'Cause we had it, we was magic

I was flyin', now I'm crashin'
This is bad, real bad, Michael Jackson
Now I'm mad, real mad, Joe Jackson
You should leave your boyfriend now, I'mma ask him

Say you gotta put the good with the bad, happy and the sad
So will u bring a better future than I had in the past
Oh Cause, I don't wanna make the same mistakes I did
I don't wanna fall back on my face again
Whoa, whoa, I'll admit it, I was scared to answer love's call
Whoa, whoa, and if it hits better make it worth the fall
(When it comes around)

Sometimes love comes around
(Love comes around)
And it knocks you down
Just get back up
When it knocks you down
(Knocks you down)
Sometimes love comes around
(Love comes around)
And it knocks you down
Just get back up
When it knocks you down
(Knocks you down)

Won't see it coming when it happens, hey
But when it happens you're gonna feel it, let me tell you now
You see when love knocks you down

Won't see it coming when it happens
But when it happens you're gonna feel it, let me tell you now
You see when love knocks you down
Yeah

Life is not dull

We went to Ikea this past weekend and I am probably the only person in the world that thinks this but I don't really like Ikea. Everything they have is very modern and super low to the ground. Plus they trap you in like cattle .. when we wanted to leave it took forever to get out. Jesus it was worst then a casino .. no windows, no big signs for exit, tons of people walking around and no clocks set to the correct time ... at least with casinos you get free drinks.

Fast forward, hubby and I are walking through the store. We are searching for a new TV cabinet that is at least 70 inches long, 35 inches tall, with one or two glass draws for out TV components .. we cannot find it but decide to sit on couches and chairs as we try to get out.

We are walking along when all of a sudden we hear over the intercom my hubby's name and then to pick up the phone and dial 0. Wait, why is hubby's name on the intercom. My first thought is that the car was hit and the police were called but wait, the car is in my name not his. Ok, not that. My second thought was something major happened with our family and they called the store but wait how did they know we are at Ikea and why didn't they call our cell phones. Before I could even think of another explanation hubby states "its my wallet" as he pats his empty pocket.

Oye. We found an employee and she led us through the back ways of Ikea .. the staff lounge is impressive. We got his wallet and everything was still in it too. Thank you God.

Sadly, losing his wallet happens often and I have become to be accustomed to it ... oh well Hunny - I still wouldn't change you!

EJ/BJ

This past Saturday we went with friends to see Elton John and Billy Joel play at Gillette Stadium. Thanks KO for the free invites. We got there a little before the game and tailgated, which is always fun. Then we headed to get our seats which were field level, awesome!!! The concert started with Elton John and Billy Joel singing together, then Elton took over, then Billy and then back to both of them to recap.

I was super excited that they played Benny and the Jets .. which always makes me think of 27 Dresses. Such a good movie. Anyway they also played Up Town Girl, You're Always a Woman To Me and We Didn't Start The Fire. The best to me was when Billy was playing River of Dreams and they cut away to play Dirty Water then cut back to finish the song. That rocked!

Some highlights from the trip:

Hubby and I

Heading down to the field seats.

We were on Elton's side.

President Obama

I just need to say that I think it was super cute seeing President Obama throw out the first ceremonial pitch at the All Star Game. I loved his White Sox jacket.

Later he talked in the box with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver and they said they were surprised that he wore the White Sox jacket.

President Obama: "Everyone knows I am a white sox fan and my wife thinks I look cute in this jacket so between those two things why not."

Love it!

Package for Me?

For the past month we have been having work done on our house .. well not everyday but we signed the contract at the beginning of June. All the inside work has been done but the outside painting of the trim and staining the deck were on hold because of the stupid rain. Finally the deck is almost done. Our guy came today to put a second coat of stain on the deck and it looks really good. He told me to use the front door because he finished late in the afternoon and it was still wet so we shouldn't walk on it.

No worries. I got home and checked out the deck which looks really good but you can tell it is still wet. Everything is fine till I notice a UPS package on the deck and slight footprint marks on the step. WTF. I didn't order anything, what did hubby order? I quickly move my hand under the rail and pick up the package. It is light so I toss it over the railing, pull my hand out quickly and then grab the package before it hits the ground. Go Me. I slightly rub the footprints off the steps and they disappear. Awesome. I saved the day but still what is this small package all about.

Hubby gets home later and I show him the package which is addressed to him. He is confused because he can't remember ordering anything. He opens it and says "I didn't order this". I turn to look and its a box of Playdough .. Playdough. I begin to laugh. Who sends someone Playdough .. well hubby's silly friend does. Apparently, hubby helped him out with some work stuff and this was his way of saying thank you. Nobody told me that Playdough means thank you in boy language.

The Devil Wears Prada

I am obsessed with this movie. Every time it comes on TV I am glues to it - even if its on 3 nights in a row. Hubby bought me the movie Monday night and I have already watched it once. I just can't get enough.

Plus everytime I hear the song "Suddenly I See", by KT Tunstall, I cannot help but think of this movie and it always puts a little spring in my step. Very helpful for those rainy day blues.

If you have never seen the movie here is a 3 1/2 minute version of the movie from start to end. Enjoy!

Minty Freshness

Yesterday I had to go to the dentist for a regular cleaning. I don't hate going to the dentist but at the same time it's not my most favorite thing to do. Actually on my way to the dentist I usually feel good because I like my smile and my smile is made up of healthy teeth and I want to keep it that way.

The woman who does my cleaning doesn't speak a lot of english and has a very strong Eastern European accent but it nice and goes slowly which helps. She always asks "you floss, right" and I always say "not always but I am trying to get better" - which is true. I floss whenever something gets stuck in my teeth so that should count.

Anyway we continue on and she tells me its time to rinse. She is bringing my seat up towards the drain and I am not fully paying attention - actually I am thinking about the gunk in my mouth and how I cannot wait to spit it out. She leans in to give me my little glass of mouthwash and bam, it drops and spills all over my lap. I look like I peed my pants. Holy shit - seriously. WTF.

Ok, ok, so I can't be mad cause its not 100% her fault, she thought I had the cup and I didn't. If I paid more attention things could have been different. Sigh. Instead I am all wet and have to walk out to my car looking like I missed the potty. Needless to say I bolted home to change after that mess.

On a side note mouthwash in your lower regions is not fun .. it stings.

4th Recap

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was good. We went to New Jersey to visit the in-laws, see my cousins in NY and some of our local friends. It was a blast. We relaxed but at the same time did so much.

Friday night we went to see the movie The Hangover and it was hilarious. It was even better since we just got back from Vegas. We laughed so hard and at the end of the movie they show pictures and "Good God" is all I can say.

Saturday hubby and I went to the parade and it was super cute. It got us into the 4th of July spirit. Later that day we had a cookout, worked on my tan and swam in the pool. It was delightful. To end the night we went to see the fireworks and they were so pretty. I just love them.

Sunday we slept late and hung around the pool and grilled again. We went to see the Transformers movie later that night and it was AWESOME!!! I loved the movie! When we got back we had smores. God, I forgot how amazind they are. Yum Yum!

To Much Info - Oh Well

So much for relaxing candles, they won't help with this situation. I pulled my groin muscle. I didn't even know girls could do that. We were playing softball the other night and the ground was muddy which caused me to slip when I running to first base. I was safe so that is cool but I pulled my muscle and it hurts.

A funny conversationt then proceeded to take place:

ME: Can you pull your vagina?
KO: What?
ME: Can you pull your vagina? It hurts.
KO: Um.
ME: I think I pulled the muscle.
KO: Oh, I thought you wanted me to pull on your vagina.
ME: Um no, we are close but I wouldn't ask you to do that.

Candles

I forgot how relaxing and calming lighting a candle can be. I just bought a new candle from Kohl's. The candle smells like coconut which reminds me of being out in the sun. I hope it gets sunny soon.

Movie Night

I was watching My Cousin Vinny yesterday on TV and my favorite part came on:

Vinny: What about these pants I got on? You think they're okay? Oh!

Lisa: Imagine you're a deer. You're prancing along. You get thirsty. You spot a little brook. You put your little deer lips down to the clear blue water.....BAM! A FUCKIN' BULLET RIPS OFF PART OF YOUR HEAD! YOUR BRAIN ARE LAYING ON THE GROUND IN LITTLE BLOODY PIECES. Now, I ask ya. Would you give a fuck what kind of pants the son of a bitch who shot you was wearing?

Enough said on how I feel about hunting.

What Is That

Dear Mr. Sun,

Thank you for being very brave today and showing yourself. I love when you stop by to say hello, especially on the weekend. I have missed you these last few days and hope you start visiting me more often. Don't worry, my hubby won't mind.

Sincerely,
Annie

Tissues Please

It is so sad watching the Jon and Kate Plus 8. I hate how they always say "my kids", "my kids", its never our kids. Well I guess they were heading towards a divorce but its still sad. I wish they would have taken time out from the show and focused on their family but I don't think Kate knows how to live without the show any more. I hate to take sides but I can't help it.

P.S. I can't help but cry when I see the old episodes when they looked so happy.

Out With The Old and In With The New

I finally got a new cell phone, the Envy 3. I had my old phone forever and when I saw my 65 year old co-worker with the same phone as me it gave me the kick in the butt that I needed.
